This role will be based out of our Malvern East – Melbourne office.

The Role

the Health and Safety Specialist will partner with all of Abano Healthcare to drive a continuous improvement approach and contribute to the health and safety of everyone. This will be achieved through the provisions of enabling systems, coaching, technical support, and governance activities driving compliance with the requirements of Regulations, Frameworks, Accreditations and the application of Abano Healthcare Standards, Policies and Procedures.

A snapshot of what you will be doing  

  • Participate and contribute to risk management activities including facilitating risk assessments, contributing to the development of SOPs, and conducting control verification.
  • Support hazard identification, near miss and incident reporting processes
  • Lead and/or participate in regulator inspections and audit programs.
  • Facilitate health and safety
  • Consult with managers, leaders, and teams on operational safety issues, and provide advice and assistance in identifying opportunities and solutions that enhanced safety outcome for all.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and guidance to health and safety team members to assist with team development
  • Oversee the execution of health and safety programs and recommend management actions to mitigate risk
  • Support the establishment and maintain effective consultative arrangements.
  • Participate and contribute to health and safety forums and networks, and advisory committees to drive safety and wellbeing improvements
  • Monitor and review health and safety performance to identify and act on trends, hotspots and celebrate success. Training
  • Enhance personal accountability for safety amongst managers and leaders through influencing, supporting, coaching, and mentoring
  • Lead complex and comprehensive investigations, and support clinical investigations where health and safety risks are identified.
  • Health and safety reporting
  • Work closely with the Clinical Team to monitor and support clinical risk.
  • Work with the HR team to support injury management activities.
  • Practices and role models health and safety best practice.
  • Keep abreast of WHS developments and their potential impact on the organisation.
  • Assist with and support health and safety systems and system innovation 

About you

  • A Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar health and safety role
  • Diploma of Health and Safety – Mandatory minimum standard (or evidence of working toward same)
  • Clinical experience in dental and/or healthcare (desirable)
  • Incident and investigation training (ICAM or similar)
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (or similar training qualifications) – Mandatory (or evidence of working towards)
  • Auditing qualification (desirable)
  • Vehicle drivers licence applicable to the role
